Abstract
Quality of life (QoL) is defined as a person’s subjective or
objective perception towards their physical condition, psychological, social and
environmental circumstances in their daily lives. QoL enhancement has been
recognized as one factor that contributes to an excellent outcome in patients with
schizophrenia and cognitive function was noted as one of the determinants of QoL.
Impaired cognitive function may cause the inability to work and to perform their
daily activities. Hence it will eventually lead to the decreasing of their quality of
life.
Method : In this cross sectional study, 106 stable outpatient with schizophrenia
were evaluated for quality of live and cognitive function using Lehman’s Quality
of Life Interview (QOLI) and ScoRSvI. Consecutive sampling method was used
and 95 people were obtained as the sample. The data was then analyzed using
Pearson’s correlation anaysis.
Result : The result of questionnaires performed on 95 patients shows variation in
cognitive scoring, mostly on 3 (28,42%) and 4 (26,31%), meanwhile on the
quality of life, most people are on the Average (80%). Pearson’s correlation
analysis shows p = 0,000 where p > 0,05 and r : -0,476 indicating a negative
correlation and that the strength of relationship between two variables is Average.
Conclusion : It is confirmed that the cognitive function appear to have significant
correlation with QoL of patients with schizophrenia
