HUBUNGAN ANTARA HIPERTENSI DENGAN NEUROPATI DIABETIK
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic progressive metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia. The complication of chronic hyperglycemia of diabetes mellitus is associated with long-term damage, dysfunction, and failure of several organs. Diabetic neuropathy is the most frequently seen among diabetic patient. There are several factors that influence diabetic neuropathy, such as age, duration of diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and smoking cigarette. In our study, we only observe association between hypertension and diabetic neuropathy.
Methods : This research method included in the quantitative research with observational research design and analytic cross sectional approach. Samples of this research are diabetic patients in RSUD Kota Yogyakarta totaling 65 respondents drawn at random. Analysis of the data used chi - square 2x2 to see the relationship between the two variables. Hypertension is defined as blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg or history of taking regular antihypertensive medicine. The research instrument used in this study is sphygmomanometer, medical record and score Diabetic Neuropathy Symptoms (DNS). Result and Discussion : The result showed 36 patients (55.4%) had complications of diabetic neuropathy and 29 (44.6%) patients had not. Hypertension is not associated with the incidence of diabetic neuropathy with p = 0.937 and OR = 1,041.
Conclusions : This research concluded that there is no relation between hypertension with the diabetic neuropathy.
