PENGARUH EDUKASI MELALUI MEDIA SLIDE TERHADAP PENINGKATAN KEPATUHAN TENAGA KESEHATAN DALAM MELAKSANAKAN HAND HYGIENE DI KLINIK HEMODIALISIS
Abstract
Background: Health-care Associated Infections (HAIs) are infections acquired within more than 48 hours of hospital care which are easily avoided. A correct hand hygiene technique will prevent infections. The adherence of medical staff in practicing hand hygiene is still relatively low, and can be increased by education. This study is aimed to determine the effect of education using slide media towards the increase of medical staff adherence in practicing hand hygiene at hemodialysis clinic.
Method: This study is an analytical quantitative study with a quasi-experiment pre-test and post-test design. Samples were obtained through total sampling. Eleven health staffs were studied from May 24th to July 11th 2016 in Nitipuran Hemodialysis Clinic. The staff adherence were reviewed with the 5 Moment Hand Hygiene World Health Organization checklist. Education were given using slide media for 1 day.
Results: We observed 283 hand hygiene moments before intervention and 277 moments after intervention. We found an increase of adherence of 59,85%, with an increase in doctors adherence of 40,75% and nurses adherence of 60,29%. Statistical analysis revealed a p value of 0.000 (<0.05), which shows an increase of adherence after contact with bodily fluids.
Conclusion: Slide media has an effect in increasing medical staff adherence in practicing hand hygiene
