PENGARUH PEMBERIAN KOMBINASI JUS BIJI PEPAYA (Carica papaya L) DAN JUS KUNYIT (Curcuma domestica Val) TERHADAP PENURUNAN KADAR KOLESTEROL TOTAL TIKUS PUTIH (Rattus norvegitus) HIPERKOLESTEROLEMIA
Abstract
Background: Cholesterol is a waxy substance found naturally in the blood.
Predominantly produced in the liver, Cholesterol is essential for maintaining
good health and only becomes a problem when the level in blood is too high.
Papaya is a plant originating from Mexico. Papaya seeds have the effect of
hypolidemia and anti oxidants in the blood. Turmeric is one of the original herbs
and medicinal plants from southeast asia region. In previous studies in mice
given oral curcumin no effect whatsoever seen from the results of feces and
urine.
Research Method: This is an experimental research with a pretest posttest
control group design. There were 25 white mice (Ratus nivergitus) as the
research subjects, consisting of 5 groups, those were, group 1 (negative control),
group 2 (positive control), group 3 ( combination of papaya seeds juice 100
mg/kgBW/day and turmeric juice 70mg/kgBW/day), group 4 (combination of
papaya seeds juice 200mg/kgBW/day and turmeric juice 70mg/kgBW/day) and
group 5 (combination of papaya seeds juice 400mg/kgBW/day). Each group had
5 mice. The same treatment were given to each group for 21 days. The level of
total cholesterol ` was measured by colorimetric enzymatic GPO.
Research outcome: The result of the data analysis paired samples t-test for each
group before and after K+ treatment are as follow, Test 2 resulted P>0,05 and
on Test K-, Test 3 resulted P<0,05. On One Way Anova Test on each group
before and after treatment K+, Test 2 resulted P> 0,05 and on Test K-, Test 1,
Test 3 resulted P< 0,05.
Conclusion: By combining papaya seeds and turmeric juice as long as 21 days
can reduce total cholesterol level on white mice Rattus norvegitus that have
experienced
