REPRESENTASI BUDAYA AMERIKA DALAM FILM THE GOOD LIE
Abstract
The struggle of Sudan citizen, South Africa, to have independence always correlate with United State of America as superpower country. For Sudan citizen, notably those who suffered from civil war in 1955-2005, America is superhero. The wealth and greatness turn into America’s power in helping Sudan. It is clear in the film of “The Good Lie”, Sudan citizen have other chances to live in America land, to adapt, to be influenced by America’s culture in their life, and how America’s power is really hightlighted.
This research tries to analyze America’s culture in the film of “The Good Lie”. It aims to understand and analyze America’s culture representation in the film. This research is typically qualitative with the semiotics method who was developed by Roland Barthes.
The result of this research is that that film offers cultural perspective of America. In this film, it is common knowledge that western culture is good and should be performed as a good example for public. Beside of stressing on America’s culture, this film also shows America’s power that is represented by the government with assertive, strong, care with people, and respectful with other countries. Instead of showing the hero appearance with person in magic power, machine, this film prefer to show it as country and its citizen.
